OCTOBER 8

Sisterhood officers elected were Freida McCord, president; Nataliya Kostareva, vice president; Margaret Pohjola, treasurer; Sophia Szabo, secretary.

OCTOBER 22

Newly assigned assistant priest the Rev. Peter Chris holds the Cross at Veneration. His family includes Matushka Diane Chris and children Margaret (Abby) and Jeremiah (Gregory).

 

 

 

DECEMBER 5

His Grace, the Rt. Rev. NIKOLAI, Bishop of Sitka, Anchorage and Alaska, meets with the St. Alexis Parish Council.

 

 

DECEMBER

A wall was removed in December, increasing worship space in the storefront chapel by about one-fifth. This photo, looking toward the now-absent wall, is from Pascha 2007.

 

FEBRUARY 11

Parishioners enjoy "Eskimo Bingo" at the first annual Meat Feast. This event also included a meeting of the newly named Development Committee. Committee members are Sheri Buretta, Freddie Christiansen, Andrew Guy, James Holowatch, Dimitri Philemonof, Iliodor Philemonof.

JANUARY 7

On Christmas, celebrated Jan. 7 on the Julian Calendar, the Aleut Star's travels began at St. Innocent Cathedral. The glass Star is more than 100 years old and consists of 8 pyramidal spokes with Alaska wildflowers painted on them.



 

APRIL 8

Archpriest Michael Oleksa celebrated at Pascha, along with Archpriest Simeon Oskolkoff and Deacon Andronik Kashivarof.

FEBRUARY 24

Marianae Apetroai and Anastasia Dushkin stand at the St. Alexis table at "Meet the World in Anchorage." Some 1,300 people attended this event at which the Parish showcased Orthodox and Native Alaskan artifacts.

 

JUNE 16


Dariya Kostareva helps at the annual Father's Day Weekend Plant Sale. The sale raised $2,769 for the Building Fund.

 


 

MAY 13

His Grace the Rt. Rev. NIKOLAI joins the congregation to celebrate the parish Feast Day on May 13. The Feast of St. Alexis is May 7, but was celebrated on the Sunday after the Feast.

JULY

 

Steve Waldron shows the Oleksa family the Waldron Lake property, a choice 5-acre lot centrally located near the Tudor-Lake Otis intersection. The Church has an idea to partner with another group and build an Alaska Native style village within the town to possibly include elder housing and a school besides the Church.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

JULY 29

Father Michael cuts the cake on the occasion of his 33rd anniversary in the priesthood. Both he and Father Peter were ordained on St. Elias Day, Aug. 2.
