After graduation I went into the U.S. Navy and served aboard the nuclear carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower and on the staff of the Commander, U.S. Naval Surface Forces, Atlantic Fleet. I married Karen York of Vestavia (David Northington's wife's best friend) in 1982 - happily maried for almost 20 years now. We have 2 boys, Phillip who was born in 1984 and Austin who was born in 1989. I have been at UAB for over 15 years and am currently the Information Officer for The School of Optometry.
