CONTRA BOREALIS DANCERS Minutes Meeting---October 18, 2005

1. Those present: Sue Cole, Jim Deininger, Alan Braley, Marty Baldridge, Sue Fenner (via phone) and guest Stan Read

2. Time, Date, Place of next meeting: Tuesday November 16, 2005 Alaskaland 5:30 P.M.

3. Minutes: corrections? none.

4.Treasurers Check-in: Alan says that dance camp had a loss, increased by $150 with food expenses submitted by Barbara for the dinner she fixed. Alan and Stan Read will go talk to the Boy Scouts about next year, since there are plans to renovate part of the lodge, which may make it unavailable for camp. Since Lift Ticket will play for Camp Damp in Juneau this summer, we could think about having our dance camp the weekend before or after if that is the chosen band and if the Boy Scouts have a weekend available then. Jim will send Isabelle the numbers for insurance, with a copy to Alan. Isabelle will check lists for member overlaps and send us a bill for our part. We discussed the fact that dances are barely breaking even. Barbara thought all dance rates should go up a dollar. Instead of raising rates for our many students, we discussed the recent (Dec 2004) increase for sound. We agreed that sound rates could go down, but not to the previous rates. The new rates will be $55 for equipment and $25 for operator = $80 total.

5. Membership Check-in: Jim says we have about 9 new members for October.

6. Newsletter Report: We need a new newsletter person.

7. Dance master Check-in: Sue Fenner (479-2761) has volunteered to be the new dancemaster. She has someone for the next regular dance on Nov. 4. She will be at the door for the Oct. 28 swing/couples dance. Alan volunteered to do the door for the regular contra dance on Dec. 2.

8. Webmaster tells all: John has put up a text version of the Larry Unger event poster on the website.

9. Publicity Report: Barbara was not able to be here. She indicated that she will still send the members e-reminders.

10. Scheduler's Report: We need a new scheduler.

11. Corporation Report: Lois Henderson is not able to be our corporation representative but Jim has been attending and is the secretary. Club reports:The Ballroom group will put in a spotlight for the disco ball. Any shoes or other items left in the hall will go to Value Village at the end of the month. The hearing enhancement system for the hall, including a transmitter and 6 receivers was ordered. Garbage disposal died and was replaced. Some group missed cleaning the bathrooms. The floor was scraped by someone dragging a large table--need to lift those to move them. The hall doors were left open; double check as you lock up. The dancer parking signs are up in front of the hall. Semi-annual hall clean-up is coming up. Corporation meeting minutes are on the dancealaska.org website.

12. Student Rep Report: Pat Webb was not able to be here.

13. Anything Else? A group effort pulled off a flyer sent to all members about the special event with Notorious. Alan will collect for the concert Thursday eve. Barbara talked to Stan Justice and Anna Berge about teaching Friday eve. She will also contact Ballroom folks with publicity. Sue Fenner will do the door Friday eve. Alan will pay Notorious at least in part before he leaves on his trip. We need to pay some amount towards band transportation. They will rent a car in Anchorage and drive up and back. Stan Read will be a backup place to stay if the cats/dogs/birds at Braley's are too allergy-provoking. They will need 4-wheel drive for Stan's house. Barbara will contact Pete Bowers and Trudy for publicity for dances and workshops--and KUAC? We need a Saturday door person, for workshops and eve dance. Sound? No bids yet! Marty got some info to Suzuki teachers about the concert and fiddle workshop. Caitlin Warbelow will play for the Callers' workshop, to be paid $30. Frostfire will play for the Complicated contras, paid $30 each. For the *special all dances ticket for $25, make a list of people for door and check off at each event.
