CONTRA BOREALIS DANCERS
Minutes Meeting---December 20, 20051. Those present: Sue Cole, Jim Deininger, Alan and Barbara Braley, Colleen Herning, John Adams and Marty Baldridge
2. Time, Date, Place of next meeting: Tuesday January 17, 2006 Alaskaland 5:30 P.M.
3. Minutes: corrections? none
4.Treasurers Check-in: We still owe the Boy Scouts for part of dance camp. The Dec. 3rd dance was ahead $55 and the Dec. 17th dance was ahead $21, but since we still need to pay hall rent, the net will be a loss.
5. Membership Check-in: Jim gave us a current membership list. According to Jim, we have 88 local members and 105 statewide members. He has noticed a trend in decreasing membership--in Sept. there were 115 members, Nov. 92, to Dec. 88. Since Sue Fenner kept such good track of the attendance at the Dec. 17 dance, Jim made some charts showing how many dancers were members, nonmembers, students and student members, and how the revenue is split along those categories. Only 33% of the dancers are members and 38% of the dancers are students. We have twice as many student members as adult members. 79% of the expenses are band and sound.
6. Newsletter Report: We still need a new newsletter person.
7. Dance master Check-in: Sue Fenner had another meeting and was not able to attend.
8. Webmaster tells all: Jim would like to be removed as the newsletter person on the website, since he is not doing that job. Current vacancies on the board are President, Newsletter, Special Events, and Dance Camp head.
9. Publicity Report: Barbara is doing e-mail reminders before each dance, along with posters for local bulletin boards, KUAC announcements and listing in the News-Miner events calendars.
10. Scheduler's Report: Colleen has the spring schedule, but since she works out of town in summer, she will not do the summer and fall schedules. She said that Sarah Garland was willing to do those. Thanks Colleen and Sarah!
Regarding the swing dance on April 7, Colleen will see if Don Turner will set up and take down the Ballroom's sound system. Last time the use of the system was free. She will check with the Zimmermans to see if they will teach. Last time we paid them $60. She could ask Richard Kemnitz if Don is not available.
Colleen had some questions about balancing the dances between bands. Each band has 2 dances, the extra date was decided by a drawing of the bands available on that date and Celtic Confusion got the extra dance.
