CONTRA BOREALIS DANCERS

Minutes Meeting---March 21, 2006

1. Those present: Jim Deininger, Alan and Barbara Braley, Colleen Herning and Marty Baldridge

2. Time, Date, Place of next meeting: Tuesday April 25, 2006 Alaskaland 5:30 P.M.

3. Minutes: corrections? The February meeting was changed to March 21

4.Treasurers Check-in: Alan has nothing new to report. He will continue to try to contact Cliff regarding status of boy scout camp for possible dance camp.

5. Membership Check-in: Jim will email Barbara info on the two new members.

6. Newsletter Report: We still need a new newsletter person.

7. Dance master Check-in: Sue Fenner was not able to attend.

8. Webmaster tells all: John is not able to be here. He took some photos at the last dance for the web. Ask John to change caller for Renaissance dance on May 5 to Barbara.

9. Publicity Report: Barbara has contacted the News-Miner to publish our dance information in the Fairbanks Square, their weekly flyer available at local businesses. She has not had any luck getting the Alaska Monthly to put out our schedule. Colleen will include our dance schedule from the web to the Alaska Monthly when she does her band publicity. Plans for the May 5 Renaissance dance have been in flux. Eva is not doing it. Barbara also talked to Ken McFarland. He will not do this May's dance. He would be willing to call a future dance with the harp/fiddles/cello band who have been playing for his English Country dances. Barbara will call on May 5.

10. Scheduler's Report: Colleen will send Sarah Garland her lists for contacting bands and other scheduling information. Sarah will do the summer and fall schedules. Summer dates are June 2 or 17, July 7 or 22, and August 4 or 19. Marty will look for summer happenings and send the board suggestions via email.

11. Corporation Report: Jim brought the Northern Lights Council of Dancers draft mission statement and goals. We read and discussed them and he will share some of our comments at the next Corporation meeting. The tables were discussed. We don't see a need to buy more tables. The only tables we need on the dance floor are for band sound--one long one or two square ones would do it. The small square tables should have protective feet and should be picked up (not slid) by two people and carried. The sitting area near the main door currently has too many tables. We could fold up and store the two long tables and move any extra benches to the outside walls, except for the mirror wall.

12. Student Rep Report: Pat Webb was not able to be here.

13. Anything Else? Barbara will check with Zimmermans on plans for the swing dance on April 7. If we don't have dance camp, maybe we could plan a special event at the hall with an outside caller and local bands.

Adjourned at 6:40 PM.
