CONTRA BOREALIS DANCERS Minutes Meeting---September, 2006

1. Those present: Scott Luper, Sue Cole, Jim Deininger, Alan and Barbara Braley, Pat Webb, Lynn Basham, and Marty Baldridge. Isabelle Mudd joined us for a few minutes.

2. Time, Date, Place of next meeting: The next regular board meeting is Tuesday October 10, 2006 Alaskaland Dance Hall 5:30 P.M. We are going to meet on the second Tuesday of each month.

3. Minutes: corrections? None noted. Marty apologized for not taking any notes at the annual meeting held at the last dance in May. We held the meeting at the break and sounded a plea for new board members and for dancers to sign up for memberships.

4.Treasurers Check-in: Alan will give us a summary at the next meeting. He notes that our corporation dues are paid. Most dances barely break even. Alan will check to see who the signers on the account currently are.

5. Membership Check-in: Jim reports that memberships are down, due to no dance camp this year. We have 47 current local members and 52 total, counting out-of-towners. Isabelle pointed out that our members are covered by the Hall liability insurance, for which the group pays $4.10 each. Jim gets the list of our members to Alan for this payment. After some discussion about how to boost membership, we agreed to raise dance admission rates for non-members. The adult non-member price will go from $7 to $8 for an evening's dance and the student rate will go from$3 up to $4. The adult member price will stay at $5 and the student member price will stay at $2. Adult membership stays at $15/year and student membership at $8/year. As an extra bonus to members, we also agreed that new and renewing members will get free admission to the dance they become members.

6. Newsletter Report: Lynn will do the newsletter and Scott will find a person (or group) to get it mailed.

7. Dance master Check-in: Sue Fenner was not able to be here. Marty tried to call her, but her phone had been disconnected. Marty will be available to do the door for the Sept 8 dance, if Sue does not appear.

8. Webmaster tells all: John is not able to be here, but he has updated the web page with our fall schedule.

9. Publicity Report: Barbara has posters for the fall schedule. She was not able to arrange a dance at Wood Center. We agreed that she can e-mail "expired" members about the next upcoming dance.

10. Scheduler's Report: Sarah was not able to be here. She has done the fall schedule. We talked about adding a Halloween dance. Isabelle has given the OK for us to have a dance on October 27. Sarah will find a band and caller.

11. Corporation Report: Jim noted that the Corporation annual meeting and free dance for all groups is Sept 30 from 6-11 PM at the Hall. There will be several changes in the bylaws and renewal of our contract with the Borough for the next 4 years. The changes are listed on the dancealaska.org web page. Isabelle will post the jobs to be done when cleaning up list again.

12. Student Rep Report: Pat Webb will be able to attend meetings more this year

13. Anything Else? Welcome to Scott Luper as our new President, Chief Coordinator and Runner-of-meetings. He will coordinate, make sure things get done, recruit for the board and promote contra dancing. He is interested in getting some of our young enthusiastic dancers on the board and helping out. We agreed that we want a dance camp in 2007 and need to reserve Lost Lake with the Boy Scouts. We agreed that a group is the way to do it, rather than having one person in charge. Sue Cole was recently at Fairbanks Creek Lodge up on Cleary Summit for a painting retreat. She thought it could work for a winter dance camp. They paid $65/per person per night which included food. They needed to guarantee 15 people. We still need someone to work on special events. It was almost 7:00 PM when we adjourned.
