Contra Borealis Dancers Board meeting minutes Jan. 15, 2008
1. Those Present: Alan and Barbara Braley, Jim Deininger, Cynthia Steiner and Marty Baldridge
2. Next meeting is Tuesday Feb. 12 at 5:00 PM at Gullivers.
3. Minutes: Marty forgot to print and bring Colleen’s minutes from the Dec. 4 meeting.
4. Treasurer’s report: Alan has nothing new to report, but checked records to answer Cynthia’s
questions about past dance camp budgets.
5. Membership: Jim says we have 137 active members as of Jan. 1, 2008. (36 of those are students.)
6. Newsletter: Where is Lynn?
7. Dancemaster: We still need one. Jim D. and Marty will do the door for the next dance on Jan. 19.
Cynthia suggested that we ask members at the door to check the list to update e-mails (also helps those
whose memberships have lapsed.) Update the list in the box with a red pen and date entries.
8. Webmaster: We will ask John to put the membership form on the web page, so folks can download
a copy to mail in with their fee. Double check that the new rates are on the web site: $10 to become a
student member, $15 to become an adult member, Dance fees---$3 for student members, $5 for student
non-members, $5 for adult members, $8 for adult non-members. Free entrance to the dance you join or
renew. We discussed children’s rates. Under 13 are free. 13 and up pay.
9. Publicity: Barbara clarified that Tundra Caravan has our date at the Hall for the 3rd Sat of Sept. 2008.
She will reserve Wood center for our usual dance through the University Women’s Association.
10. Scheduler: Colleen has done the spring schedule. Thanks!
11. Corporation: The next Corporation meeting is on Tuesday February 19. There are 6 new black
chairs at the Hall for musicians, costing $170 each.
12. Dance Camp: Dance Camp 2008-- Negotiations are under way with Hillbillies From Mars and
caller Beth Molaro from North Carolina. We will offer the band of four $600 each plus $600 for airfare,
with half ahead for travel expenses. No decision was made on how to handle sound, though Hillbillies
have expressed a preference for Bill and Betty. The caller was offered $500 plus $800 travel. She wants
to bring her 6 yr. old plus significant other who is an old-time fiddler who could teach a workshop. Our
favorite cooks are willing to do camp again. Connie Z. wants to help. Non-dancing scholarship kitchen
help may get more work done? Cynthia will e-mail the contra folks in Anchorage to see if they will
reimburse us for part of the Hillbillies’ travel costs. $200 each?
Cynthia is thinking ahead to 2009, considering Great Bear Trio and Lisa Greenleaf. Barbara will contact
Lisa about 2009.
