3. The Board: Alan Braley continues to step into the Treasurer position. Jim Deininger has agreed to be the new Dancemaster, and Cynthia Buchanan will be the new Student Rep. A big Thank You! To all of you for coming forward.
4. Treasurers Check-in: Alan reports no balance report as yet - has been working with Dennis to "learn the ropes". Alan brought in new signature cards for the bank and Gary, Stan, and Sue filled them out. Dennis needs to give the PO Box key to Alan. We agreed that another PO Box key should be obtained.
5. Membership Check-in: About 280 at this time. Stan prepared mailing labels with expiration dates of the newsletter in red, but Dateline electronically copied the labels in black and white onto the newsletter, so the effort was for naught
6. Webmaster: updates happening in a timely fashion - still at http://www.alaskafolkmusic.org/cb
7. Scheduling: Some discussion of swing dance at Wood Center, so need to coordinate cancelling Alaskaland Dance Hall. Friday March 24, the University Contradance Club has a date reserved at the Wood Center in conjunction with the Celtic Festival. Normal prices will be charged. Suzy Fenner asked Gary Newman to obtain the band, tentatively Gaelic Fusion.
8. Dance master Check-in: is learning also and has worked some with Holly. Got a list of likely folks to call for event door persons.
9. Special Events: Kathy reports that on May 5, Kari Lundgren will call with Polar Drive. Brian Demarcus can come up with "Fat Weasel" for a Summer dance date - tentative summer dates are June 2, June 23, July 1, July 15, 2000. For April 15 dance, Sue/Kathy will to talk to Greg and Suzie Zimmerman and Jeff Sauer for doing a Swing dance - all the regular bands will be at the Juneau Folk Festival.
10. Kathy talked about Summer Dance Camp and distributed a tentative budget, to which we concurred: $115 entry adults, $70 teens, $40 12 and under, estimating 100 / 10 / 10 person in each category respectively. We came to an agreement to hire some cooks that will buy the food themselves - it will be less confusing. Scott Darter will do sound, as the Connors will be out of town that weekend. The next Dance Camp meeting will be at Kathy’s on Feb 10 at 6 pm - pizza will be provided. Kathy can be contacted at kag@alaska.net or 479-8221. Volunteers are always welcome if you can’t do an "official" position.
11. Publicity Report: Things are going better now. Barbara is "blitzing" the newsminer to make sure they get the messages.
12. Corporation Report: Todd reports that a sensaphone has been installed in the Dance Hall to call various numbers if the temperature drops or various other conditions are noted. Our insurnace is taken care of. The numbers of the three dance hall keys we were issued have been reported to Betsy. The Connors have at least one key, Scott Darter one key and Sue Cole one key. A large sign that is visible from Airport Road is to be made and installed on the roof of the building. We need a person to volunteer to be a contact person for the building committee. It’s not a lot of work, mostly a contact person. The next corporation meeting is Feb. 17. Todd will be unavailable after March 9 until next fall to attend corporation meetings, so board member-at-large Lynn Basham has volunteered to substitute. Thanks, Lynn!
13 Student Rep Report: Cynthia Buchanan (
ftcab1@uaf.edu - 474-7480 ) can only make board meetings on Tuesdays. She will try to contact students and get some feedback on various things, partly from a separate signup list at the dance. (March 24 Wood Center dance discussed under scheduling above).14. Newsletter Report: Recently went out. Suzy will work on corrections for the next newsletter.
15. Anything else: Adjourned at 6:30 pm.
