Contra Borealis Board Meeting
Minutes for March 12, 2002
by Marty Baldridge, Board Secretary
1. Those present: Sue Cole, Elaine Gross, Alan Braley, Stan Read, Jim Deininger, Lynn Basham, and Marty Baldridge
2. Time, Date, Place of next meeting: Wed April 17, 2002, Alaskaland, 5:30 P.M., downstairs.
3. Minutes: Corrections ? none
4. Treasurer's Check-in: Alan got a list of new members from Stan and sent the check for insurance to Isabelle. We are caught up on hall rent through Jan. He is still getting papers from the IRS and trying to resolve questions.
5. Membership Check-in: Stan reports we have 130-140 members. He gave the current list to Alan for insurance to Isabelle.
6. Webmaster tells all: Gary is not able to be here.
7. Dance master Check-in: Jim says there were 28 dancers and we probably broke even on the last Callers' Delight, on Feb 22.
8. Folk Dance Report: Marty reports that the folk dance on Feb 16 had 6 dancers and $24 forwarded to Contra Borealis. The next dance is 6:00-7:30 P.M. on March 16
9. Special Events:
Fourth Friday Dances: For the Callers' Delight dances, Lynn is happy not to charge at all. We think it is fair to have all the callers split the usual $30 fee. It was also suggested that we pay the regular band and sound system fees for those dances.
March 24 Event: Ken is not able to be here. He is planning an English Dance at Wood Center on Sunday March 24. It will be a free dance-- Wood Center does not charge and Ken will not charge for sound and calling. It is primarily a graduation event for his class, but everyone is welcome. He will do the publicity.
March 29 Dance: Lynn has not heard from the Girl Scouts. He will check with them and let us know so we can cancel the date at the Hall if needed. Since there have been a lot of extra dances and since he has to balance some other commitments, it was decided not to try a Callers' Delight on that date.
Dance Camp 2002: Elaine will check into using Wood Center for the Friday night pre-Dance Camp in-town dance. She would like a call for dance Camp committee members in the next newsletter. She would like to offer a price break for those who register early, maybe $115 with $130 being the price after July 1. Since Anchorage dancers might have the Hillbillies on their way up or back and might share airfare, Stan will find out how much they contributed towards airfare last time. Elaine will get a list of sound system needs from the Hillbillies and send it on to Scott, Bill and Betty, and Gary for bids. Hillbillies will figure out who is actually coming and get back to us.
Dance Camp 2003: Elaine has Wild Asparagus for Dance Camp 2003.
10. Publicity Report: Barbara is not able to be here. She would like Contra Borealis sponsorship of her belly dance group to use Wood Center on May 18 and will check with Britton.
11. Corporation Report: (Lynn missed the last meeting.)
12. Student Rep Report: Britton is not able to be here.
13. Newsletter Report: Thanks to Todd for sending out the postcard for the Feb. 22 Callers' Delight. He is not able to be here.
14. Scheduler's Report: Co-schedulers Susie and Scott are not able to be here.
15. Anything else? We discussed dates for summer dances. We have June 7 and June 15 already scheduled on the calendar. We will see if we can tie one of those dates to the Fairbanks Summer Folk Fest and let the other one go. Other dates under consideration for summer dances are July 20 and August 17. Dates may have to be chosen based on which bands can play during the summer.
Meeting adjourned at 6:24 PM.
