Minutes for September 5, 2001

by Marty Baldridge, Board Secretary

Alaskaland Dance Hall 5:30 pm

1. Those present: Scott Darter, Todd Paris, Stan Read, Alan Braley, Barbara Braley, Sue Cole, Jim Deininger, Elaine Gross, Marty Baldridge

2. Time, Date, Place of next meeting: Mon Oct 8, 2001, Wood Center l, 5:30 P.M.

3. Minutes: Corrections? None

4.Treasurers Check-in: Alan reports that Dance Camp made $650 and gave us a summary, although Stan adds that there are some outstanding bills. Alan can find no record of our non-profit status and the IRS has no record regarding us. It turns out our EIN is the NSFCU's number. Sue checked with Alison who sent helpful responses to both Sue and Alan.

5. Membership Check in: Stan gave Alan a new membership list for insurance purposes.

6. Webmaster tells all: Gary is not able to be here.

7. Dance master Check-in: Jim needs a schedule and current membership list and he will call.

8. Folk Dance Report: Folk dancers have dances scheduled with Isabelle for the fall on Oct 20, Nov 17 and Dec 15, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

9.Special Events : Elaine is gathering ideas for special events, thinking about a time in February for a winter dance camp. Possible places to investigate are Denali Institute near the Park, Chena River Convention Center, Wedgewood Resort, River's Edge community center, Fish Creek B+B near Skiland. The end of November brings the 20th anniversary of the dance hall celebration, combined effort of all dance groups--more details as we find out.

Summer Dances Report: The summer dances were not well attended. Scott suggested that house dances might work well in summer.

10. Publicity Report: Barbara will make posters and get them up, once she has the schedule.

11. Scheduler's Report: Scott gave us the schedule that Susie worked out, and will forward it to Gary to go out on the webpage. No band can play for the Nov 17 dance, so Sue suggested we have a swing dance and will arrange it.

12. Corporation Report: Lynn is not able to be here. Sue went to two meetings. We need to renew the lease. We will have a new person in charge to work with and there are some repairs needed to make or send out to bid. The porch needs the foundation leveled and roof fixed and painted, and the side entry needs improving.

13. Student Rep Report: Suzy and Britton are not able to be here. There is a dance set up for Sept 29 at Wood Center.

14. Newsletter Report: Todd will try to get a newsletter out before the Sept 15 dance. He can include a Dance Camp wrap-up, t-shirts available, and lost and found. Marty will send him an item about folk dance.

15. Dance Camp North 2001:We have yet to pay the Boy Scouts for rental of the camp. Since Chris had to clean the kitchen we will negotiate price. We would like to schedule next year's Dance Camp now, considering having it on Labor Day weekend (maybe easier for out-of-towners). There will be a Dance Camp section on the survey. Kathy and Stan will not be heading up Dance Camp next year. Stan will still do registration.

16. Survey Ideas: We talked about Sue's list of questions for the survey to build dance memberships and dance attendance in general. We agreed that the survey can go out in the newsletter, be e-mailed to people and put out at the next dance to give folks a variety of ways to respond.

Meeting adjourned at 6:37 PM.
