Contra Borealis Board Meeting

Minutes for September 7, 2000

by Marty Baldridge, Board Secretary

1. Those present: Sue Cole, Stan Read, Kathy Fitch, Alan Braley, Jim Deininger, Gary Newman, and Marty Baldridge

2. Time, Date, Place of next meeting: October 11, 2000, 5:30 PM upstairs Wood Center cafeteria

3. Treasurers Check-in: Alan Braley reports there is $5754 in checking, $00 in savings, with some checks to deposit and ~ $1100 due to Boy Scouts for Dance Camp. Discussion of increasing dance prices, members up to $5, non-members $6, and for now the same, student members $2, student non-members $3.

4. Membership Check-in: Stan Read reports that there are less than 200 members. Ideas for a membership drive are having the Wood Center dance on Sept 22 free to everyone and signing up new members there. There could be a coupon for a free dance when new members sign up (not for renewals).

5. Webmaster tells all: Gary Newman updates the website as he gets information. The Fall 2000 schedule is now posted.

6. Dance master Check-in: Stan Read will get a new door-sitter list to Jim Deininger so he can more easily find volunteers for the door.

7. Special Events: The Folk Dancers have the board's permission to have a Sept 16 dance from 6-7:30, as well as other dances during the year. They will be responsible for $20 to cover the extra hour for the hall. They will charge regular contra dance rates for people attending the whole evening and $3 for those only attending the folk dance.

On Sept 22 there will be an Alaskaland Appreciation dance with Lynn Basham calling our part of it.

Kathy Fitch will do the Summer Dance Camp, but not special events. Both Susan Delisa and Charley Basham have ideas for events.

We need to find a person interested in Special Events, or have those interested in an event work with it. Gary will make change to website to invite for the position.

8. Publicity Report: Barbara Braley sent in posters for the semester; a suggestion was made to list all the prices once at the bottom, rather than for each dance.

9. Corporation Report: We need to go to the meeting Sept 11, 7:30 PM at Alaskaland to be represented.

10. Student Rep Report: Suzy's not here.

11. Newsletter Report: Suzy Fenner's doing the first one, then Todd Paris takes over.

12. Scheduler's Report: Kathy Fitch has the semester schedule filled except for Jan 5. Lynn may have a conflict calling on Oct 21; Kathy will check with Betty. Kathy will bring the spring schedule to the next meeting.

13. Summer Dance Camp Report: There are some leftover t-shirts which Kathy will bring to the next dance. (Gary will post availability on the website.) It would be good to offer fewer style choices for shirts and have a clearer order form. Kathy would like to reserve dates for next summer's camp on 1st choice--Aug 17, 18, 19 or 2nd choice --Aug 24, 25, 26. Ideas for bands include Brian Demarcus with Bev Smith, Bruce Molsky, and Rafe Stefanini (old-Time) and KGB (multi-genre). Gary has ideas for West Coast bands.

14. Anything else?

Meeting was adjourned around 7:00 pm.
