The New Membership Schedule
Each dance entry remains at:
The Board agreed to phase in the new rate as it comes up. This is to cover our new insurance costs among other things. Annual Membership Fee - It hasn’t changed for over a decade, but due to increased cost of insurance, annual membership fees will go up. Also, student membership is extended to all students from 13 years and older, not just University of Alaska students. The old fee schedule is effective only for any renewals received or postmarked prior to Jan. 1, 2000.
Nominating Committee (slate by March meeting). Scheduling update. Charley Basham, Stan Read and Cathy Walling will be the nominating committee.
Decisions were made regarding new schedule for Spring of 2000 - - listed at http://www.alaskafolkmusic.org/cb. Some thoughts and ideas proposed were: to make half of one of Frostfire's dances a couples dance, and to make the dance for Saturday April 15th a swing dance with a CD boombox because all the bands will be out of town at the Music Festival. Final decision to be made at the January meeting after checking with various people.
4. Treasurers Check-in: We have around $5,000.00 in both accounts. Kathy G. and Stan have accounting report for DCN ’99. We made around $460.00 thanks to the silent auction. . . .thanks Kathy. Everyone agreed it was a great low-key way to make some extra money, and now that we have done it once, people will already be in tune with the idea next year, and by putting advance notice in the newsletter, could come up with more and better things to auction off.
5. Membership Check-in: Down: local members = 145 (for insurance totals), total membership = 190.
6. Webmaster tells all: Minutes will be entered on the website as well as the newsletter as they are received. More people are turning to the web page these days for the schedule and other information. A newsletter update will go out via email to those whose email addresses we have. Stan and Gary are coordinating on email addresses.
7. Dance mistress Check-in: not present, but everything is okay for now.
8. Special Events: Dance camp meeting will be on Monday. It works better when the cook also buys the food, so they can be more in control. Summer Dance Camp 2000 at Lost Lake will be held at Lost Lake Boy Scout Camp Aug. 11-13. There was a conflict for the next two weekends with the Boy Scouts. This will conflict with the Fair, but oh, well. Band and caller will be Hillbillies From Mars and Kathy Anderson.
The extra March dance at WC could be a possibility for Dudley Laughmann (sp?) a crusty caller for New England. An old timer from way back. Some were enthused about him, some not. Lynn will talk to him about his schedule. Anchorage Dancing Bears were interested in BB&L - Gary will check with Susan Delisa.
9. Publicity Report: Had some snafus with the paper, but everything’s working smoothly now.
10. Corporation Report: Todd didn’t have the date information, so he missed the meeting, but will be sure to make the next one. Stan is the only one who showed up the semi-annual cleanup on Dec 4th.
11. Student Rep Report: Suzy Fenner arranged for a UAF van to pickup and drop off students at the last dance. Kudos to Suzy! There is a possibility of an extra dance in March at the WC, reserved by Suzy.
12. Newsletter Report: Suzy will try to get this out before she leaves. (She later found out she could not accomplish this. She will do it on her return.)
13. Anything Else:
Ken McFarland is putting together an English/Scottish Country dance series at the North Star Ballet, beginning mid January 2000 on Thursday nights from 8 pm – 10 pm. He has to have to have insurance to do this, so will do it through CDSS. We okayed Ken to use our mailing list to do a mailing to Contra Borealis.
Lynn will be happy to sponsor a new caller’s workshop for anyone interested in trying it out.
Kathy Gingrich will be happy to sponsor a spaghetti feed and dance? at her house to make money to bring up Kari to call a dance if anyone is interested.
