Erik WebergI began calling dances in Moscow, Idaho in 1990 with the encouragement of dancers and callers in Idaho and Eastern Washington. Over the decade of the nineties I worked my way west, expanding my collection of dances and communities for whom I've called. My home is now Portland, Oregon and I've enjoyed calling for local and regional dances, festivals and weekend dance camps around the Pacific Northwest. I've had the privilage of calling for communities from Western Montana to San Francisco to Vancouver BC and many places in between. I've toured with several bands during that time and have met some wonderful people around this quarter of our continent. For four years I have been chair of the Portland Country Dance Community, the local center of the CDSS.
I choose dances which complement styles and tunes played by the band I'm working with. Each dance should let the dancers really groove on what the musicians can do. At the very least, dances should feel good and be interesting, and it's my goal to make it so. I love to see dancers really getting into the flow of a dance and feeling the music down deep as a result. I take what I do seriously, but I make sure I have fun with it as well, and the fun is what I like to project when I call.
