Goober Lake Trail

The Goober Lake Trail starts from the trail along the Glenn Hwy. approximately 2 miles west of Eureka Lodge just before the cutoff to Startup Lakes. There is a summer pull off and trail head on the south side of the highway.

The Goober Lake trail heads south toward the Chugach Mountains crossing Eureka Creek, bogs and small lakes while winding through the lower elevation trees until it climbs above the tree line just before intersecting with the  Knob Hill (Alascom Tower) Trail. At the intersection with the Knob Hill trail turn left (east) to head to Goober Lake or right (west) to head past Hunter Lake and Knob Hill.

The Goober Lake trail used continue on from Goober Lake east down to the Nelchina River after negotiating a steep hill dropping 1200' in 1.2 miles. This route to the river washed out in 2000 and now the locals have been working on a trail to the Nelchina River from the Goober lake trail about a mile further north of Goober Lake.

The Goober Lake Trail is the main route to area south of the Glenn Highway and west of  the Nelchina river.
