Flight to Council Alaska
Friends Mike Kaufman and Roger Shadick piled in the 185 intent on the four hour flight to Council. Bob Barrons has a fishing cabin there. Council predated the Nome goldrush when gold was discovered nearby on Ophir Creek. Now, the nearest site to Nome that has trees, it is used as a recreational location. Situated on the banks of the Niukluk River, known for its large Arctic grayling, we were really looking forward to the trip. Enroute, we planned Rainy Pass to Mc Grath and a stopover for fuel and weather update.
