My name is Terry Coral Echo-Hawk. I am a full time Information Technology Student at UAF here in Fairbanks, AK . I designed this website from Dreamweaver 8 as a course requirement, in the pursuit of my IT degree. I moved with my family to Fairbanks, to get my degree. I am now 80% done. One of the main reasons for me developing this specific website, was to share my heritage with others worldwide. I like to think that I have successfully blended the traditional sewing techniques of my Ancestors with the modern techno world today as a means of being a successful "Talking Leaf". I wanted with all of my heart to share my cultural heritage with others previously unaware of us.
As an aside, I am an Upper Kuskokwim Athbascan Indian originally from Nikolai, Alaska.I've always had a love in keeping our traditional ways alive. I've always felt that as an Alaskan Native we have a unique ability to withstand Arctic Winter temperatures that on average reach to almost --70 below degrees Farenheit in the Interior of Alaska. In order to withstand these conditions, my ancestors designed Arctic Gear that could measure up to and overcome the bitter cold. I am very proud of the fact that I now possess this gift of being a Skin-Sewer. I create these products with the spirit of my Elder Grandmothers with every stitch I sew. The spirit of myself and my Elder Grandmothers goes into everything I make. After each item is finished, we bless it and say a prayer for the customer.
I am the sole owner-operator of this home-based online sewing business. The idea of developing this website came after years of sewing for family and friends as a hobby. Everyone that I have talked to stated that I should endeavor to go online to share my gifts. Each of my items are uniquely hand-made and custom-fitted to the specifications of each customer. They are all unique and beautiful works of art. I am so thrilled to have the ability to share my gifts with you.
